Daily Dinner

Recipe for creamy fava bean soup:
**saute about 12-15 fresh sage leaves, 2 onions and about 6-8 cloves of garlic in butter for about 5 minutes
**add about 4-6 cups shelled fava beans, 1 dried chipotle pepper, and 1 bay laurel leaf and saute for another 5 minutes
**add water to cover the beans and then some;
add a little molasses
**bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes
**remove the pepper and the bay laurel leaf and blend the soup
**add about 1.5 cups milk, salt and pepper to taste and warm on very low heat

We had this soup with rice, artichokes (some garden, some berkeley bowl), radishes, roasted garlic and roasted leeks.

Daily Harvest

The chickens have been free-range in the yard for the last week or so, in order to keep Lemon Harmon from pecking the little ones too much. So the two big chickens have not been laying in the coop. For a long time we couldn't find the eggs- not under the porch, not in the compost bin, not in the tall grass.... Then! Lo! Behind the rosemary- a bunch of eggs! Some were cracked and eaten- possums? rats? raccoons? squirrels? Now we know where to find the eggs.

Daily Snack

Back in fall when we had more avocados than we could deal with Jonathan made a froze a ton of guacamole.
Today as we waited for our artichokes to steam and the favas to cook we ate guacamole from the back yard on our crackers, below our cheese.
So yummy!

Here is another picture of the guacamole without the cheese blocking the view. It's purple! Can you hardly believe your eyes! I love our strange little avocados.
