Halloween!

This pumpkin grew out of our compost! So exciting to carve a jack-o-lantern from a home-grown pumpkin.

We finally have swiss chard that's not getting the weird wilty-yellow disease! I hope that doesn't jinx it...

Avocados!

Man, we're having a bumper year for the little licorice avocados that grow on our neighbor's tree.

Hooray for friends and neighbors! We gave Dafna some avocados and she gave us spicy pickles and jalpeno jam. Rosalie passed on a whole bunch of quinces from her mom's neighbor's tree. A quince bucket brigade.

I made greek salad with these greens, tomatoes, mint, oregano, and lemon verbena plus feta, olives, and red onion from the store.

Chickens

We can have the chickens out and about a lot more now. The summer crops are about done and the winter greens are big enough that the chickens can't kill them with one nibble or kick. Run around ladies!

We have so many avocados right now! They take a day or two to ripen inside. They are tiny and mildly licorice flavored and you can eat the skins. I love that we have something so strange growing in our yard.
