Daily Dinner

I love your blog! Cool guiding questions. Fabulous photos. It inspired me to garden today.

Question: Did you eat yr favas in the pod when they were young? At Cafe Rouge, they serve grilled fava beans in the pod, salted. When we asked, "Do you eat the pods?" The server said,"I don't know." We tried eating the whole thing (pod and all), but it was a little stringy not to mention fuzzy. But to just eat the beans seems odd since they salted the pod. Any way, we met some people who say to pick the pods early and then to steam and eat the whole thing. However, our favas are past already.

I can't wait to see what you have for dinner next.

Oh man, I had some fava beans that had been grilled in the pod a month ago or so. They were delicious! And most of the pod was really tender and not too fuzzy. The person who cooked them said she just marinated them in olive oil, salt and pepper, then grilled them. They were actually pretty large though not huge. We haven't tried it with any of ours, but maybe we will...
